Today I want to celebrate Chia Seeds!
These little beauties are one of the top sources of fibre in the world! They are 40% fibre by weight and mostly soluble fibre which is prebiotic meaning it feeds a healthy gut! Chia seeds are also high in anti oxidants, a great source of protein and contain more Omega 3 than salmon gram for gram! (But there is a difference, the Omega 3 in Chia- ALA- isn't as easily converted for use within our body as the Omega 3 in fish sources- DHA- so it is still important we are including oily fish in our diets regularly. Finally these tiny seeds are actually higher in calcium than most dairy products!
